The dynamic Nissan NISMO 370Z, a tuner-Z® enthusiast’s dream and the most powerful production Z® ever offered, enters its third year in 2011 – again offering 350 horsepower, racing-inspired exterior and interior styling, a specially tuned suspension and unique super-lightweight forged alloy wheels.

Developed by Nissan’s Specialty Vehicles Group in conjunction with Autech Japan, Nissan’s longstanding conversion partner, the limited production NISMO 370Z provides unique performance and design attributes that true sports car enthusiasts are looking for straight from the factory.

The limited production NISMO 370Z is offered in one completely equipped model with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission only and in a choice of five exterior colors, including one new exterior color for 2011: Gun Metallic.

Advanced VVEL V6 and Tuned Suspension Come Standard

Every NISMO 370Z starts with the unmatched foundation of an advanced Nissan FM (Front Midship) platform, refined 4-wheel independent suspension and 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL). The VVEL system helps optimize intake valve open/close movements, allowing the needed air to be sent promptly to the combustion chamber at the precisely optimized time.

For its use in the NISMO 370Z, the 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 produces 350 hp @ 7,400 rpm and 276 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm. The NISMO Z®’s enhanced engine power and acceleration is provided through use of an exclusive H-configured exhaust system design and muffler tuning, along with optimized ECM (Engine Computer Module) control. The NISMO 370Z is offered with only one transmission, a close-ratio 6-speed manual with Nissan’s “SynchroRev Match” synchronized downshift rev matching system.

The “SynchroRev Match” function automatically controls and adjusts engine speed when shifting to the speed of the next gear position, essentially “blipping” the throttle to smooth out any up/down shifts. This not only allows the driver to focus more on braking and steering, it improves the smoothness of gear shifts by reducing the typical “shock” when the clutch is engaged. The system can be deactivated with a button next to the shifter for drivers who prefer to shift on their own.

The NISMO 370Z features a tight, rigid body structure with a strut tower bar brace and a pair of performance dampers, which quickly and efficiently react to help control body vibrations from road input via the tires, contributing to the NISMO 370Z’s outstanding handling and performance feel.

The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Sports Car

PRESS – The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was debuted at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. It is the highest-performing Camaro and the most technically advanced car ever developed in its class.

The new ZL1 continues the momentum of Camaro, propelling it into an entirely new realm of leading-edge performance technology.

It is planned to launch at the beginning of 2012. Motivated by a supercharged V-8 engine producing an estimated 550 horsepower (410 kW), the Camaro ZL1 will be the fastest Camaro ever offered by Chevrolet.

And more than just power, the ZL1 features technologically advanced and highly developed chassis and suspension systems that help it deliver balanced, track-ready handling and braking power to complement its high engine output.

The ZL1 name is derived from the all-aluminum racing engine of the same name, which was developed in the late 1960s and installed into a handful of regular-production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built with the engine, but they’ve achieved mythical status among enthusiasts, as they represented the pinnacle in Camaro performance – until now. The 2012 ZL1model is designed to be a major leap forward for the Camaro, bringing anew level of performance capability to the segment.

It is told that Huayra Tata resides deep in the high peaks and valleys, abandoning them only to demonstrate his power to his wife, Pachamama, goddess of mother earth.

With his power Huayra Tata was able to lift the waters from lake Titicaca and rain them down on the fertile Pachamama. When Huayra Tata sleeps, the waters and rivers lay quiet. But the calm before the storm is about to be interrupted…


The eternity of the element air. Gentle and refined, yet the strength of the wind it is able to erode even the toughest of materials giving birth to distinctive shapes known in nature. Elegant and muscular the Huayra merges the past, present and future in a timeless interpretation of automotive art. The styling of the car was perfected over the course of 5 years to find each line’s beginning and end.

During this study, eight scale models were created, as well as two 1:1 models, each an evolution of the previous in a never ending quest to perfect the form and refining the substance.

The bi-xenon headlamps are just one of the many precious gifts from the Zonda R, and LED daytime running lights are seamlessly integrated in the elliptical shape of the design. The rear bumper integrates with the diffuser and is dominated by an elliptical frame that surrounds the four central exhaust outlets, now becoming a characteristic Pagani element.


The new central monocoque on the Huayra is an entirely new design made from carbontitanium. However, with the gull wing doors cutting deep into the roof, much research was focused on achieving the highest levels of rigidity through the application of new advanced composite materials and technologies first tested on the Zonda R. The fuel tank is located integrally in the best protected area of the monocoque, behind the driver, reinforced by safety cell made of different composite and ballistic materials. The front and rear CrMo subframes offer an exceptional rigidity-to-weight ratio to allowing the suspensions to work at their best while incorporating an advanced energy absorbing crash structure, ready to protect the occupants in the unlikely event of an impact.

The never ending quest for weight reduction resulted also into the combination of structural and non-structural or aesthetical elements. An example is the integration of all ventilation air ducts into the monocoque’s structure, making the use of additional parts and ducts unnecessary.
The result of this attention to detail is a vehicle weighing 1.350 kg making the Huayra the lightest sportscar in its class.

As the first production model to wear the brand’s “F” marquee, the Lexus IS F offers a thrilling, fun-to-drive experience.

The Lexus IS F high-performance sport sedan races into 2011 with several interior updates including LED daytime running lamps, an improved suspension, and a new brake override system.

To improve responsiveness and ride comfort, in addition to providing the driver with more control, engineers revised the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system and suspension.

With revised front and rear spring rates, shock absorber dampening, rear bushings and rear camber angle, the IS F provides a confident ride.

The Lexus IS F is exclusively powered by a performance-tuned 5.0-liter V8 engine teamed to an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission. The IS F engine produces 416 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 371 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 5,200 rpm. The engine’s high specific output (83.2 hp/liter) and high operating range (6,800 rpm redline) reflect the thorough attention to detail underlying the core engineering. The resulting performance character, while quite responsive in low-speed situations, provides a rush of power at higher engine speeds.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Luxury Sports Coupe

Cadillac Automotive VehicleCadillac announced the 2011 CTS-V Coupe, which debuted at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

It combines the new CTS Coupe’s dramatic design with the 556-horsepower (415-kW) supercharged V-8 engine from the CTS-V sedan.

The result is a luxury sports coupe aimed at driving enthusiasts.

“The CTS-V Coupe marries our most potent and sophisticated technology with our most dramatic production design,” said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager. “This combination of visual and technical attributes is designed to create a very compelling choice for luxury sports car consumers.”

The CTS-V Coupe begins production this summer.

  • Its suite of technical and performance elements includes Magnetic Ride Control, racing-bred Brembo brakes and an available automatic transmission with paddle-shift control.

The V-Series Coupe includes a unique grille that doubles the car’s air intake volume, an important enabler for its high-performance capabilities. It is also visually identified by a raised center section of the hood that provides clearance for the supercharger, as well as specific front and rear fascias. Like the CTS Coupe, its exhaust is centered inside the rear fascia, but with unique twin outlets. The car rolls on 19-inch cast aluminum wheels, available in either painted or polished finishes, and Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tires.

The CTS-V Coupe’s rear track is nearly an inch wider than the CTS-V Sport Sedan, adding to the car’s aggressive stance and enabling an extra measure of handling capability. The current CTS-V Sport Sedan has quickly established itself among the world’s highest performing luxury sedans, becoming the first production four-door on street tires to break the legendary 8-minute barrier at Germany’s famed Nürburgring. The new V-Series Coupe’s sleeker shape and slightly lower mass ensure a similarly high level of performance.

Inside, the 2+2 cabin combines performance and luxury. A new Saffron interior trim color is offered, with contrasting microfiber seat inserts and stitching on the upper trim areas.

This 2011 Audi A8 4.2 FSI is one of luxury sedan with 4 doors.

Luxury does not imitate. It is, instead, imitated. It sets standards. It usually is the first to innovate, or to apply innovations deemed by others to be too expensive, too risky or simply unnecessary.

Luxury has a feel all its own. It even smells rich.

Luxury is superior without apology. But because it is blessed with genuine self-confidence, it usually does not embrace arrogance, which is inherently flawed by the germ of self-doubt.

Luxury on wheels is the 2011 Audi A8 4.2 FSI Quattro sedan, the subject of this week’s review, and arguably the standard by which all other luxury cars should be judged.

What immediately catches the eye and offends the aesthetic sensibilities of some observers is the A8 4.2’s egregiously wide-mouthed grille, which prompts thoughts of the gaping mouth in Norwegian artist Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.” Love it or hate it, you will neither ignore nor forget it, nor will you mistake it for anything else.

That grille is a bold statement that the A8 4.2 is different. It’s a valid statement, too. Consider the car’s body.

The A8 4.2 is an all-wheel-drive full-size sedan that feels as tight and light as a much smaller rear-wheel-drive sports car. Credit here goes to patented Audi Space Frame (ASF) technology, which uses aluminum and strategic applications of lightweight, high-strength steel to increase vehicle-body stiffness while reducing overall body weight.

The use of ASF technology in the 2011 A8 4.2 yields a 25 percent improvement in body rigidity and a 20 percent reduction in weight in comparison with the 2010 model. CHEVY VOLT: rated 93 mpg on electricity w/o gas, 37 mpg on…

Powered by electricity without being tethered to electrical outlets.

The Chevrolet Volt has gotten its EPA mpg ratings:

The equivalent of 93 miles per gallon (mpg-e) in combined city and highway driving while running on electricity alone.

37 mpg when running on juice from its onboard gasoline-powered generator.

Those will be the figures on the Volt’s window sticker when deliveries of the plug-in car begin next month. The Volt is priced at $41,000, though buyers may qualify for an up to $7,500 federal tax credit.

Earlier this week, the Nissan Leaf all-electric plug got a window-sticker rating of 99 mpg-e for combined city and highway driving. The Leaf has no onboard generator and Nissan estimates its range, subject to variables such as climate and drivers’ habits, at about 100 miles and then the car must be plugged in to recharge.

The Volt can go 25 to 50 miles on electricity alone, also subject to variables, then a 1.4-liter gasoline engine kicks in to provide juice for the electric motor, making its range the same as a non-electric car — a capability General Motors has advertised as eliminating “range anxiety.” To electric car purists, however, that makes it not a fully electric car.

The ratings means potential buyers needs to look closely at their driving needs. Owners who can do much or all of their typical daily driving on electricity and plug in at night will get stellar mileage. But if they needs to use the gas-engine generator much of the time, a conventional (and cheaper) hybrid, as well as several regular gas-engine (and much cheaper) cars would provide similar fuel efficiency.

The 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost recently took a roundabout way to demonstrate durability and best-in-class towing capability.

The new truck/engine combination racked up 1,606 miles towing a best-in-class 11,300 pounds while circling the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway oval at an average speed of 82 mph. It’s the latest test in a series of web-based documentaries to demonstrate the durability of the new 3.5-liter EcoBoost truck engine available in early 2011.

EcoBoost is fundamental to Ford’s strategy to provide technologically advanced, high-output, smaller-displacement powertrains that deliver uncompromised performance and fuel economy. EcoBoost engines deliver fuel economy gains of up to 20 percent and reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 15 percent, compared with larger, less-efficient engines.

What to Expect on the next-gen BMW 3-series?

The first 2012 BMW 3 Series info has just surfaced the web as the next generation model was caught on camera while testing on the Nurburgring. Unfortunately, the car in the spy photos is heavily camouflaged, but it does seem to be the sedan version. The 2012 BMW 3 Series is expected to hit the showroom floor on the EU market sometime next year, with the USA market following soon. The 2012 BMW 3 Series Touring and coupe will also follow, probably around a year later.

The fact that the 2012 BMW 3 Series prototype has been almost completely covered, may mean that the new generation will have a re-designed front fascia, with new headlamps, grille and spoilers. The hood of the 2012 BMW 3 Series may also show

A huge change for the 2012 car could be the addition of three-cylinder engines to the lineup, according to “Autocar”. Though these wouldn’t likely be seen in the U.S. during the first half of the next 3-series model life, they could eventually make their way across the pond if fuel efficiency and emissions regulations continue to tighten past 2016.

With a single turbo and 1.5L of displacement – effectively half of the current twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine – the cars would be good for anywhere from 150-170hp and 150-220lb-ft of torque, with the gasoline models weighing in lower on the torque scale than the diesel models. Paired with an ultra-efficient 8-speed transmission and more efficient auxiliary systems such as heating and cooling, the next-gen 3-series is expected to deliver some seriously impressive economy.

One of the new advanced EfficientDynamics technologies to make its way into the next 3-series will be a so-called ‘air curtain’. Using a special series of ducts and vents, the system directs air in a manner such that it slips neatly over the wheels, which are normally an area of high turbulence, and therefore energy-sapping drag.

The first salvo in an effort to restore a product-starved lineup–on May 3, CEO Sergio Marchionne said Tuesday.

Marchionne told an industry conference in New York that sales of the redesigned Grand Cherokee SUV will begin in July.

Chrysler plans to have 100 percent of its existing lineup refreshed or replaced by the end of 2012, as a wave of new products derived from the alliance with Fiat S.p.A. begins to gain strength.

The Grand Cherokee SUV , assembled in Detroit, was Jeep’s second-strongest U.S. seller last year, accounting for about 22 percent of the brand’s volume. The company hadn’t previously spelled out a schedule for the redesigned version.

Marchionne said he is pushing for “an attention to quality that is probably unprecedented in Chrysler.”

“It needs to be flawless–our definition of quality,” Marchionne told the National Automobile Dealers Association/IHS Global Insight Automotive Forum.

In a speech interrupted by a protester shouting about U.S. taxpayer dollars going to Chrysler, Marchionne vowed to repay the loans from the U.S. and Canadian governments. But he said the federally mandated arbitration process for rejected Chrysler dealers has slowed efforts to improve the dealer network.
