The 2011 BMW M6

The 2011 BMW M6

For 2011, the BMW 6-Series is expected to see some changes in its design. Although the 2011 BMW M6 is based on the BMW 6-Series, it doesn’t look like the design changes will carry over to the M6 just yet; it is expected to carry over unchanged into the new model year, with coupe and convertible body styles. Expect to see the new year’s vehicles in the showroom in the middle of 2010. Read on for an initial car review:

This is what we know about the specifications of the 2011 BMW M6 at this point:

  • Pricing: current car pricing of $102,350 MSRP and $94,160 invoice for the base vehicle shouldn’t go up too much for the next year
  • Fuel economy: current gas mileage of 15 mpg city/22 mph highway should remain unchanged
  • Engine: 5.0-liter, 507 hp V10
  • Acceleration: 0 to 60 mph in about 4.6 seconds
  • Car safety features: antilock brakes, stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags (coupe), parking sensors in front and back, rollover hoops (convertible)
  • Suspension: sport suspension with struts in front and multilink suspension in back
  • Warranty: four-year/50,000 mile basic and powertrain warranties; twelve-year corrosion coverage; four years roadside assistance; four-year/50,000 mile maintenance warranty

Exterior Features

The 2011 BMW M6’s exterior should remain unchanged for the upcoming year, although there may be some changes to the options packages. The M6 will be available in coupe and convertible body styles. The styling of the M6 is like a luxurious large coupe, but inside is an outstanding performer. The 2011 M6 should come with adaptive xenon headlights. The coupe should have a carbon-fiber roof.

Interior Features

The new BMW M6 will see few changes for the new year, although some changes may be changed to the options. Interior features of the 2011 BMW M6 are likely to include leather sport seats with power adjustments and driver memory and heat, Bluetooth compatibility, heated front seats, two zones of automatic temperature control, a recently revamped iDrive interface that has hard-drive navigation with live traffic updates, and a Harman Kardon audio system. The convertible will have a powered soft top. Satellite and HD radio, iPod integration, and keyless entry may be options, or they may become standard for the new model year.

The front seats of the BMW M6 are comfortable, and have plenty of head and leg room for most people. The back seats will fit two, but there is not a lot of head or legroom. There is an average amount of trunk space for the class.

The 2011 BMW M6 is built to be a performance vehicle. It has quick acceleration and strong brakes. The seven-speed automated SMG transmission is described by some as jerky. A six-speed manual transmission should be available as an option without charge.

How the 2011 M6 Compares to Other Luxury Sports Cars

There are only a few vehicles that compare to the current BMW M6, and the 2011 M6 is likely to have the same competition. There haven’t been any new 2011 BMW M6’s available for road tests, but the new model is likely to compete with these vehicles:

  • Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG
  • BMW M5

The BMW M5 is expected to go on sale in late 2010, should see a redesign, and will cost less. If you don’t want to wait, or want an M6, the mew models should arrive at the dealerships in the middle of 2010.
